PPC is excited to announce that it has resolved to relocate the library to the former Lloyds Bank building, creating a larger library space and community hub. This move aligns with the Council’s Objectives and Key Results, as outlined in our policies (www.perranzabuloe-pc.gov.uk/policies), and will enhance our library service and the community it serves. It has also carefully considered the results and feedback from the public consultation held in March, using them to shape and refine the initiative in alignment with the community’s needs and priorities.

Since taking over the library from Cornwall Council in 2019, the service has become an integral part of the parish council’s service portfolio, with ever-increasing visitor numbers. As libraries are encouraged to evolve and meet the needs of future generations, PPC aims to give the library the space and visibility it deserves within the parish. Relocating to the old bank building provides an opportunity to create a modern, multi-purpose community hub, with the library at its core. This move will build on the successful extended opening hours and the “Community Wednesday” initiative, enabling us to offer a wider range of services, events, and workshops, fostering creative and meaningful engagement with the community.

The hard work now begins to ensure proper planning and finances are in place, with discussions already underway as part of budget forecasting. Planning permissions will be the first step, and we’re currently working on the project timeline. This decision follows comprehensive discussions (including option assessments) on a broader strategy for the Parish’s property portfolio to ensure all assets are used for community benefit or commercial viability.

Discussions on other properties are ongoing, and the Strategic Plan for PPC’s Property Portfolio will be published soon, outlining the outcomes.
