Now we have heard the latest government guidelines as we move into the autumn, the Parish Council is here to support the local community through these uncertain times.
Covid-19
We have worked with Cornwall Council and the Office of Police and Crime Commissioner to provide measures to combat anti-social behaviour including additional CCTV monitoring, an extra CCTV camera and street marshals. This has been an extremely successful package together with the introduction of traffic cones to widen the high street pavements to facilitate social distancing. These will be in place until the end of October when a review will take place.

Emergency Plan
The Parish Council has been working in partnership with Cornwall Council’s Flood Forum and the Environment Agency to create an Emergency Plan for the parish. A team has been trained comprising local volunteers able to respond to emergencies, particularly flooding and any other major incidents.
Anyone for table tennis? Plus new Play Equipment
If you’re an avid table tennis player, head on down to Bolenna Park or Goonhavern Park for a bit of outdoor competition on our new tables. Maybe check out the wind direction first!
The newly installed play equipment at Bolenna Park and the gym equipment at Goonhavern Park have been hugely popular. Goonhavern will also soon see the final stages of the Saints Trail cycle track and installation of a pump track.
That Skate Park!
It’s really on its way! We have been talking to the Planning Officer and have revised the design to accommodate local concerns, and we hope that permission will be approved for this facility very soon. Thank goodness – at last!
The Beach
Our 3 Beach Officers have done a great job patrolling the beach during the season, and we are very grateful to the RNLI lifeguards who have kept us all safe throughout these crazy times.
Library
Perranporth Library re-opened on 4 July. Local book worms have been delighted that they can swap over their lockdown books for a new set of reading materials. At the moment this is still operating on a ‘click-and-collect’ basis with books reserved beforehand online and books handed over at the entrance. We are hoping that you will be able to actually come into the library to browse at safe distances very soon.
We said a fond farewell to Barbara Tremewan this month. She has worked in Cornwall libraries for over 30 years and has now earnt a happy retirement. Thank you so much for helping us to transition from Cornwall Council operations to the Parish Council.
Hands Off Perranzabuloe!
Cornwall Council’s Community Governance Review Panel agreed on 6 October to recommend to their November Full Council meeting that full consideration of the proposed change of the Perranzabuloe/Cubert border be deferred until the next Council term starting May 2021. Perranzabuloe argues that the development of 137 houses has still not been realised (planning permission expires in March 2021) and that any future residents should have the opportunity to choose which community they identify with.
Furthermore, the Parish Council has submitted an Expression of Interest for a grant from the Heritage Lottery to reclaim the site at Penhale Camp and to establish a rewilding project which will allow the natural habitat to be re-established as well as helping Cornwall Council to achieve its target of carbon neutrality by 2030.
