Policy
Perranzabuloe Parish Council recognises that metal detecting is a popular hobby that can help increase understanding of the past. While no licence is required to use a metal detector in the UK, there are laws governing its use. Using a metal detector on private land without the landowner’s permission is illegal.
Metal detecting on land owned or tenanted by Perranzabuloe Parish Council — including Perranporth Beach and the dunes — is not permitted except where a metal detecting survey forms part of an approved archaeological investigation.
Who This Applies To
This policy applies to everyone, including members of metal detecting clubs, amateur archaeologists, students, academics, professional archaeological companies and private individuals.
The Council has adopted this approach as it believes it is the best way to continue to look after the local environment.
