Marketing / Information Campaign
Promote the skatepark project. Provide detailed information on the design, location, and potential impact. Encourage open discussions to gather feedback, concerns, and suggestions from community members.
- Launch an informational campaign to keep the community informed about the skatepark’s progress. Utilise social media platforms to share updates, photos, timelines, and milestones. Address frequently asked questions and provide contact information for inquiries.
- Engage with local schools – meeting with School Parliament, attending assemblies, any school fayres etc. Design competition for the acoustic fence to encourage creativity.
- Collaborate with local street artists, schools, and galleries to explore possible projects for integrating art into the skatepark. The acoustic wall exemplifies a community arts initiative that could lead to an aesthetically improved appearance as you approach the village from Goonhavern.
- Online survey, shared through Facebook, community pages, PPC website and local newsletters. Ensure questions are clear and cover various aspects of the skatepark and with regards to a potential Skate:Create Club and/or Youth Club, training sessions, volunteering opportunities etc.
- Annual Parish Meeting 22 April – provide an information board with images, sign-up sheet for volunteers, suggestions sheet.
- Collaborate with local businesses to garner support and sponsorship for the skatepark. Engage them in the planning process and discuss potential benefits to the local economy. Address any concerns they may have regarding the project.
Skatepark Community Group
Establish a community group comprised of representatives from various stakeholder groups and invite to Full Council meetings to discuss updates, address concerns, and gather ongoing feedback. Share the decision criteria for key aspects of the skatepark, such as opening event, maintenance, collaboration with other skateparks. Clearly communicate how community input has influenced these decisions.
Opening / Celebration Event
Host a community celebration event upon the completion and opening of the skatepark. Invite stakeholders, community members, and local media to showcase the result. Acknowledge the community’s contributions and emphasise the positive impact of their involvement.
Conclusion
By implementing this comprehensive community engagement plan, the aim is to create a sense of community ownership and pride in the new skatepark, fostering a positive and supportive environment for all residents.
